If you have freebore issues, running a piloted freebore reamer in there would be a much better solution than a Wylde reamer. And yes, HS gauges are the same. The military rounds may be loaded to higher pressures, but most modern bolt guns will handle 60-65,000 psi with out problems. The result of firing 5.56mm NATO in a .223 Rem SAAMI chamber is a lot less exciting then many would lead you to believe.

The Wylde chamber is what I call a happy balance between the short throat 223 Rem and the looser chamber and longer throat of the 5.56 NATO is the best way I can describe it.
