WebSep 26, 2004 · I successfully changed the pinion seal on a 7.5 axle without replacing the crush sleeve. (I believe the 8.8 uses the same seal.) The procedure is in the shop manual. The trick is to measure the torque required to break the pinion nut free. Then with the new seal in place, tighten back to the same torque.
