The marriage is arranged, and because Rukmani is the fourth daughter and there is very little dowry, her best match is to a poor rice farmer. WebNectar in a Sieve is, in fact, a complex fabric woven up by various threads of themes. On the first front, it is a powerful story of hunger, death starvation and terrible poverty. It also represents the tragic vagaries of nature which bring about catastrophes in the lives of the millions of the hapless peasants.
