WebbFela Sowande (1905-19878) was born in Nigeria and began his musical studies there. He completed these at London's Trinity College and Royal college of Organists. His career was most varied. After briefly studying engineering, he returned to music, but in many aspects. Thomas Ekundayo Phillips was born in 1884. His father was Bishop Charles Phillips of Ondo. He attended the CMS Grammar School, Lagos, then went to the Government Training School for Dispensers, where he qualified as a Chemist. He became an optician by profession.
