WebApr 28, 2024 · 3 2 1 I know this isn't the right page, but I'm gonna say it probably needs a new carburetor. The ignition systems are generally very reliable on small engines. The carbs get affected by ethanol gas and rubber bits swell or become non-functional. Also, if unused for a while without a fuel stabilizer can cause problems. WebJan 30, 2024 · Those Stihls are pretty reliable for the most part. I'd buy a new spark plug, that's about the only thing that goes wrong on them. Next thing would be to check the gas filter in the tank. They can get gummed up from sitting. Worse case would be the carb needs new diaphragms. The main issue is that it isn't starting. So, I put in new fuel and checked the spark plug. I cleaned the air filter. After that I tried using a syringe to inject fuel directly into the Carburettor. That got the thing to start, but as soon as I try idling it instantly dies.
WebMar 2, 2013 · Yes the saw seems very simple. Unfortunately I can't figure out what is wrong. I think I would rather work on a complicated car. I agree when it was running it seemed like a carb issue. Now that it is not starting at all - I'm still lost. I have the air filter off so the sound when pulling the cord might be different than normal. WebSep 26, 2010 · Don"t start a two cycle motor with either. You can lock the crank bearing up in one start. If you need to fuel it this way use WD-40. It will start them and has enough lube to protect the bearings. WebSep 6, 2008 · If you have spark, take the air cleaner off and get a can of starting fluid and put the straw in the nozzle of the can, grab the saw, open the throttle all the way and give it a half-second burst of starting fluid, and pull that recoil.

Saw starts and runs cold fine. As it warms it won't idle for more than 30-45 seconds. Runs at WOT fine. New fuel line, filter, and air filter set gives it no change.
